STRUCTURAL SEMANTIC FEATURES OF THE NAMES OF ENGLISH DISHES
Abstract
Purpose. Both in the distant past and in the modern world, food culture plays a significant role in human life. The context of food consumption, as a rule, is nationally determined and largely reflects the cultural and socio-religious characteristics of ethnic groups. This article explores a special aspect of the English-language gluttonic discourse – the nomination system of English-language dishes, namely their structural and semantic features and pragmatic specifics. Method or methodology of the work. The analysis of practical material was carried out using the method of semantic analysis, definition analysis, and interpretation analysis. Results. The result of the study was a classification of the names of dishes, developed taking into account the semantic attribute and reflecting the pragmatic features of the nomination of dishes in the menu. Practical implications. The research results can be used in university courses in lexicology, intercultural communication, semantics.
