The present work discusses the use of the textbook of Mathematics in the process of teaching and learning. The objective of this study is to analyze and discuss the common ways in which mathematics teachers adopt and use the didactic book, in the course of developing their pedagogical practices. A bibliographic methodology was used, based on scientific articles, books, doctoral dissertations and master's dissertations. In the midst of many discussions that revolve around the use of the Mathematics textbook, we sought in this work to investigate the ways, limits and possibilities of its use, considering that it is considered as complementary didactic resource for pedagogical practices. However, the result is summarized only in the unique and exclusive use of the textbook, in most Brazilian state public schools, as the main didactic resource used throughout the teaching and learning process of Mathematics.
