The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between socio-emotional aspects and mental health and physical health perceived by the participants of a university program for the elderly (Peritia et Doctrina of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria). These elements have been analyzed because of the importance they have in the quality of life of the elderly. To this end, the Cognitive-Emotional Strategies questionnaires Moldes (Hernández-Guanir, 2010), the CTI, Constructive Thinking Inventory (Epstein, 2007) and the SF-36 Health Questionnaire (Spanish adaptation of Alonso, et al., 1995) were applied. ). The results indicate that the mental health perceived by the group of participants is significantly influenced by certain variables: directly with the emotionality and the ability to overcome; whereas the negative selective evaluation, the justification of the failures, the negativity, the discordance, the defensiveness and the anticipatory hypercontrol show a significant inverse relationship. On the contrary, in the face of this subjective assessment of perceived mental health, the results reveal that perceived physical health does not have a significant relationship with any variable.
