Video-based Extraocular Muscles Learning Module
Abstract
Abstract At the University of California, Los Angeles David Geffen School of Medicine, first-year medical students are taught the anatomy of the eyeball and its pertinent neurovascular structures, as well as that of the extraocular muscles during the Musculoskeletal Medicine block, but the full visual system is taught in other sections of the curriculum. Under this schedule, the students are not formally taught how the functional anatomy of the extraocular muscles and their cranial nerves relate to the visual system, both in general and in the context of clinical assessment. This module bridges that gap. This module contains a series of slides with accompanying video and narration that guide students through the relationship between the extraocular muscles and the visual system. Although an evaluation of this resource has not been formally executed, the authors have considered monitoring student usage.
