Association between Genotype of IL17A rs (22759130 G/A) and IL17F rs (763780 T/C) Polymorphism in the Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients with Oral Fungal Infection

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic diseases, characterized by hyperglycemia resulting damage in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. In Iraq, this problem is considered a major problem in population and high frequency associated with Iraqi population. Type 2 DM (T2DM) is usually associated with chronic systemic inflammation and oral fungal infection. These complications are associated with genetic polymorphism. The development of oral fungal infection is potentiated by various pathogens that induce an immune response leading to the production of cytokines, such as interleukin (IL)-17. Recent studies showed that genetic factors influence IL-17 synthesis and polymorphisms in the IL-17 gene may affect IL-17 synthesis the aim of this study was to explore some association between genetic variants T2DM-associated single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). Methods: This is a case − control study which consisted of 150 subjects (75 patients and 75 controls). Tetra-primer amplification refractory mutation system-polymerase chain reaction was used for genotypes and alleles detection of two SNPs. Results: The current study revealed that the GA genotype for IL17A (rs2275913 G/A) reported a slightly increased frequency in patients with 37 (49.4%), compared with healthy 25 (33.3%), with odds ratio (OR) value of 1.94. Furthermore, it showed that in IL17F rs763780 T/C, the CC genotype was a high frequency and significant between compared groups which accounted for 29 (38.7%) versus 8 (10.7%) with a high OR value of 5.2 (P < 0.001). Conclusion: This study revealed that GA genotype in IL17A and CC genotypes in IL17F were positively associated with T2DM patients, as well as positively effect on increased frequency of oral fungi infection.
