The use of base isolation system is one of the developments in civil structural engineering in order to protect structures under major earthquake loads. The concept of the use of the base isolation system is to increase structure’s natural period and to provide additional damping to the structures reducing or avoiding the structural damage significantly under major seismic loadings because the input energy from the seismic will be dissipated through the FPS mechanisms. The study implemented two types of friction pendulum bearing system (FPS) namely the Single and Triple Pendulums. In this research, the behaviors of the single and triple friction pendulums implemented in the reinforced concrete high rise buildings will be compared and discussed. The design method of FPS is based on the combination of ultimate load and response spectra complying with the Indonesian Standard SNI 1726-2012 standard. Seven time histories were implemented for non-linear analysis to study the performance of the structures. Parameters used to evaluate the performance namely base shear, inter-story drift, roof acceleration, degree of damage and energy dissipation resulting from the responses of these two types of FPS’s both under design based and maximum credible earthquakes.
