1943: Franco Vs. Naciones Unidas. La guerra silenciosa de los servicios de inteligencia norteamericanos y británicos en España
Abstract
1943 was a decisive year for the Franco regime. Redirect the course of Spanish politics was key for the Allies. The pressures occurred: external – wolfram, rumors of Allied invasion and coup d’état… –, and internal – letter of Procuradores; threats from the Generals… –. August marked a turning point after the interview between Hayes and Franco and the urgent visit by Samuel Hoare at his summer residence in Meirás. The battle between neutrality and non-interference had the support of information networks deployed by the Allies, but the positions of the British and US Embassy not always pulled in the same direction. A relationship of forced cooperation and permanent competition that would be decisive for the future of Europe.
