Delay Factors in Construction Industry in Global and Regional Context

Delay in construction is the inability of a construction project to be completed on time. Although it is generally common it is not ineluctable. Delays in project can cause a significant loss while creating a negative impacts on the project. Thus, it is important to anticipate delays. In this study, common delay factors are defined in global context. After, studies examining the delays in the construction industry of developed and developing countries and regions in the American and Asian continents are reviewed and compared. Delay causes in the 14 regions examined in the study differ. According to the data obtained, the owner and the contractor play an active role in the delays in the construction industry of the majority of the countries and regions studied on both continents.
