A Comparison of Communication Skills and Life Quality between Physically Active and Physically Inactive Academic Staff Members of Islamic Azad Universities in East Azerbaijan Province
Abstract
The purpose of this research is to compare the communication skills and life quality of physically active and physically inactive academic staff members of Islamic Azad Universities of EastAzerbaijanProvince. The statistical population consisted of the academic staff members of Islamic Azad Universities of EastAzerbaijanProvince, from among whom 342 people were chosen after preliminary studies, and the research questionnaires were distributed among them. The variables of the research were measured by three types of life quality questionnaires (Walton, 1974) and communication skills questionnaires (Martens, 1987). In order to analyze the gathered data, descriptive and inferential statistics were used. Also, for the examination of the hypothesis of the normality of data distribution, Climograph-Smirnoff test was used, and for the examination of the isotropy of all research variables, Levin Test was used. To analyze the inferential findings, T-test and Pearson's Correlation tests were used. The results indicated that: - The average age of sample faculty members was 37.53 years. - Among subjects from academic degree point of view, faculty members with M.A. degree were the most (79.5 %). - Among sample faculty members there were 266 male and 76 females, 260 of whom were married. - Among 342 people of the subjects, 209 people regularly had physical exercise in the last one year. Most of them (66.5 %) had physical exercise twice a week. - Regarding the quality of physically work life of physically active and inactive faculty members there was not a meaningful difference. - The comparison of communication skills of physically active and inactive subjects showed a meaningful difference.
