INFLUSSI GIRARDIANI IN TESTI DI EDUCAZIONE LINGUISTICA: DALLA MAESTRA DORELLI A PARLAR MATERNO (1946) DI NENCIONI E SOCCIARELLI

Abstract

Il contributo fa luce sui riflessi programmatici e pragmatico-testuali dell’ideologia pedagogico-grammaticale dell’educatore svizzero Jean-Baptiste Girard in alcuni testi italiani di educazione linguistica per la scuola elementare (1870-1946), finora poco o per niente studiati. Vengono anzitutto illustrate le posizioni glottodidattiche d’impronta induttivo-esperienziale dell’educatore friburghese, dei grammatici “teorico-pratici” che a lui si rifanno e dei fautori del metodo “oggettivo” di matrice positivista, che di tali grammatici raccolgono l’eredità, fornendo una rapida panoramica dell’influsso dell’ideologia girardiana sulla grammaticografia e sulla riflessione linguistica italiane fino al primo Novecento. Si analizzano quindi le tracce di queste vedute teorico-metodologiche nelle prefazioni (dove presenti) e nelle modalità pragmatiche e testuali di esposizione della materia del sillabario di Teodolinda Dorelli (1886) e delle grammatiche di Gaetano M. Cavalli (1870), Ida Baccini (1890) e Cesare Baistrocchi (1893), fino a cogliere echi di tale tradizione nel manualetto, finora non molto noto, di Giovanni Nencioni e Felice Socciarelli, significativamente intitolato Parlar materno (1946). Il fine dello studio, che comprende una disamina delle tipologie di esercizi e si chiude con uno sguardo agli orientamenti normativi degli autori prescelti, è contribuire a delineare, con il supporto di fonti testuali pertinenti, le forme dell’assimilazione italiana e il valore didattico del filone “teorico-pratico” ispirato a Girard, non sempre vincente quanto a diffusione dei testi scolastici, a fronte di orientamenti metodologicamente tradizionalisti e classificatori, eppure importante in rapporto ai tentativi di rinnovamento dell’insegnamento grammaticale tra Otto e Novecento. girard’s influences in language education texts: from the teacher dorelli to parlar materno by nencioni and socciarelli (1946) The paper sheds light on the programmatic and pragmatic-textual reflections of the Swiss educator Jean-Baptiste Girard’s pedagogical-grammatical ideology in some Italian textbooks on language education for elementary school (1870-1946), so far little or not studied at all. Firstly, I illustrate the language-teaching positions of Girard, based on an inductive-experiential approach, of the “theoretical-practical” grammarians inspired by him and of the supporters of the positivist “objective” method, which collect the inheritance of those grammarians, providing as well a quick overview of the influence of Girard’s ideology on Italian grammars and language reflection up to the early 20th century. Then I analyse the traces of these theoretical-methodological views in the prefaces (where present) and in the pragmatic and textual exposition methods of the matter of Teodolinda Dorelli’s syllabary (1886) and of the grammars by Gaetano M. Cavalli (1870), Ida Baccini (1890) and Cesare Baistrocchi (1893), to the point of catching echoes of this tradition in the so far not well-known handbook by Giovanni Nencioni and Felice Socciarelli, significantly entitled Parlar materno (1946). The aim of the study, which includes an examination of the types of exercises and ends with a look at the chosen authors’ normative viewpoints, is to help outline, with the support of relevant textual sources, the forms of the Italian interpretation and the educational value of the “theoretical-practical” current inspired by Girard, not always successful in terms of spread of schoolbooks, in the face of traditionalist and classificatory leanings from a methodological point of view, yet important in relation to the attempts at renewal of grammar teaching between the 19th and 20th centuries.
