This article is dedicated to the conductor’s treatment of „Symphony dances” signed by the founder of the Norwegian composing school E.Grieg in 1898. In the center of the author's attention are the methods of assimilating of the Norwegian folklore into the symphonic score. Different genres of folk dance, such as halling or springdans, are identified and analyzed, but in the orchestral sonorities the influence of the timbre particularities of the instruments of folkloric origin — langeleik and hardingfele — are observed. The author elaborates some conductor’s recommendations regarding an adequate transmission of composer’s concept.
