Economic Importance of Solid Waste in the Production of Pyrolytic Oil Utilized in Polymer Modified Bio-Binder Production in Makurdi Nigeria

The rising demand for petroleum-derived products, combined with rapidly declining global crude reserves, has resulted in significant price increases for asphalt. Furthermore, the desire for energy independence and the utilization of renewable energy sources by society drives the creation and deployment of more environmentally friendly materials, such as binders made from non-crude petroleum sources for use in transportation applications. In this study, the potentials of waste-to-energy system in Nigeria had been uncovered by considering the production of pyrolytic oil used for bio binder production from wood residue and plastic waste generated in Makurdi. Data on solid waste were obtained from households in the study area through a multi – stage sampling technique. 398 households were sampled and the solid waste data obtained was expanded to get the overall solid waste in Makurdi. The result shows that Plastic waste of 6.5 ton/day and wood residue of 15.95 ton/day were generated in Makurdi. The potential of producing 3259.10 litres/day pyrolytic oil from plastic waste and 7997.33litres/day of pyrolytic oil from wood residues using pyrolysis was discovered in Makurdi. The liable revenue to be generated from the sale of pyrolytic oil at ₦287/litre is ₦341,407,130 million/year for plastic Pyrolytic oil and 837,760,410 million/year for wood residues Pyrolytic oil which can equally be used in providing lacking infrastructural facilities in Makurdi.
