REGROUPING OF «CENTERS OF POWER» IN THE FIGHT FOR FRENCH ISLAM

Abstract

The article highlights the issues related to the actual disintegration of the French Council of Muslim worship into separate factions, taking place against the background of the Fifth Republic officials struggle for the transformation of «Islam in France» into «French Islam», which takes into account secular dogmas and values, put legal norms above spiritual, independent from foreign interference. The events leading to the formation at the end of 2021 of the Imam’s National Council, independent of the pro-government Islamic community, are considered. The unicity of the work done by the author lies in an attempt to give a numerical assessment of the «under the control» audience of the main Muslim associations of France, based on the collection of information from open sources, its systematization and calculations to assess those «indicators» that are not widely available, but are able to characterize the specific «weight» of certain significant Muslim associations operating in the country. The author also provides information about the presence of these communities in the information space - the most popular social networks in Europe. The information presented can become a kind of basis for identifying key actors which can influence the dynamics of the processes for resolving the problematic situation of Muslims in the French Republic.
