The free vibration analysis of porous functionally graded (FG) plates using 8-noded three-dimensional degenerated shell element has been presented in this paper. The Reissner–Mindlin assumptions, which converts 3D field into an equivalent 2D field in terms of mid-surface nodal variables, are employed to develop the degenerated shell elements which are used to model the FG plate. Thus, the computational time is reduced by reducing the number of nodes compared to full three dimensional elements. The three dimensional integration of element provides accurate results and can directly accommodate the variation in material properties across the thickness in case of FG materials.
