Ultrasound in urology: Part one: Urinary tract diagnsotics
Abstract
In the last half of a century sonography has become an indispensable method in diagnostic workup of the urinary tract. Although inferior compared to computerised tomography or magnetic resonance imaging, it became invaluable due to its availability. Tumours, obstructive and inflammatory changes, congenital or acquired anomalies, calculosis, trauma, are just some of the entities that can be evaluated via ultrasound, usually in elective settings. However, it is the emergency conditions where ultrasound shows its true value, where in a matter of a few moments we can have a clear understanding of urgent conditions with high precision.
