Production Costs of the Agricultural Association of the "Jaems" Farm Dedicated to the Purchase, Breeding, and Sale of Beef Cattle
Abstract
The “Jaems” Farm is located in the canton of Santo Domingo, via Las Mercedes, and is spread across an area of 40 hectares. Established 18 months ago, the farm activities include purchasing, breeding, and selling beef cattle. The cattle are usually bought when they are about five months old, raised at the farm for a maximum of six months, and then sold. Although the farm has good agricultural management, the same cannot be said about their administrative management, as the owners did not have accounting knowledge and did not know the production cost of the farm activities. Thus, the objective of this investigation was to examine the production cost of the organization. For this, a series of questions directed to the data, costs, and expenses of the farm was asked to the person in charge of the farm. With this information, a production cost of 45,489.5 for every 100 head of cattle produced per semester and an income of 50,000, which reflects a profit of 4,511.5, were estimated. Therefore, we can conclude that through the estimation of the farm's production costs, we were able to know the real cost generated by its livestock activities for each batch they produced.
