Technological advances bring about many changes in society and consequently at school. This research aims to analyze how Information Technology and Communication are used by the teachers of the municipal and state network of the city of Manaus-AM in their pedagogical practices and to investigate how ICT can contribute to the formation of critical citizens capable of transforming the current reality, and be used in the school context in an emancipatory perspective. We´ve conducted a qualitative study whose data were collected through a semistructured questionnaire. The participants were 23 teachers from Manaus municipal and state education net in Amazonas. The results indicate the need of reflecting on the meanings given to Information Technology and Communication at schools, in order that they are used in an emancipatory perspective and not an alienating one, to transform, not just to play. Therefore, the reflection on these aspects points out the need of reflection about capitalist society and the role of work and education which need to be linked. Thus, the use of Information Technology and Communication should provide ways to form critical citizens, capable of transforming the current reality.
