Background. The achievement of the national development goals of the Russian Federation, set by the President for the period up to 2030, is carried out in a new economic reality, formed under the influence of global challenges, external threats and internal regime restrictions. The coronavirus pandemic (SARS-CoV-2) has changed the socio-economic situation in the country and exacerbated the demographic problems of Russian society. The purpose of the study is to identify demographic trends that serve as an indicator of the achievement of national development goals in the new economic reality. Materials and methods. In the course of the desk study, the operational information of the Federal State Statistics Service was analyzed, reflecting the nature of economic, social and demographic processes in the country, taking place in a new reality, due to the great challenges of our time. The applied methods of comparative analysis and synthesis allowed us to substantiate the impact of the new economic reality on the demographic situation in the country, characterized by indicators of the number, natural movement, reproduction, mobility and migration of the population of the Russian Federation. Results. The main demographic trends characterized by indicators of natural movement and reproduction of the population of the Russian Federation are revealed. The functioning of the family and the role of the family in the reproduction of the population, the formation and development of human capital are studied. The directions of territorial mobility and migration flows formed both in the Russian Federation, and with the CIS member states and with the countries of the far abroad are defined. The necessity of further improving the demographic policy aimed at ensuring the natural growth of the population and reproduction of the country, reducing the level of morbidity and mortality, increasing the total fertility rate and life expectancy is justified. Conclusions. The analysis of the current macroeconomic and demographic situation during the coronavirus pandemic reflects the negative dynamics of a number of key indicators that serve as indicators of achieving national development goals. This circumstance actualizes the phased implementation of the national plan for the recovery of the Russian economy. The application of a systematic, regionally oriented approach to solving current economic, social and demographic problems will ensure the achievement of the national development goals of the Russian society in the new economic reality.
