The purpose of this paper is to update data on the situation of psychologists in Rio Grande do Norte (Northeastern Brazil), and focuses especially upon their practice. A questionnaire, composed by three parts (General data, Undergraduate studies and Professional activities) was applied to 192 psychologists (28,5% of population). The main results show that; the psychologists are mostly women (90%), less than 40 years old (67,2%), studied in the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (71%), and 55% have graduate studies. The main activities developed are; psychotherapy (59,9%), followed by academic activities, selection of personnel and psychological evaluation. The psychologists work in clinics (35,9%), public health units and educational institutions. Among other points, some questions related to psychotherapy as a main activity, the dispersion and the range of the activities developed by psychologists and the so-called innovations in psychology are discussed.
