From a significant number of sources, it is possible to build a biography of Federico de Onís that could make a characterization of an era of reforms that became widespread in Spain in the early twentieth century, often inspired, but not exclusively, by the ideas of the Institución Libre de Enseñanza and the teaching of Francisco Giner. This article will lay the foundations for this work and for this central figure in the dissemination of Spanish culture in the United States.
