This paper describes the activities of the Bank Palmas from Brazil who, acting on the principles of democratic participation and by using its own currency achieved great success. In these times, where most countries are coping with a smaller or larger economic crisis, the bank's experience in Brazil, using concepts of solidarity economy, may be an important clue for crisis Countries. The aim of the author was to show how the solidarity economy which assumes the integration of producers and consumers, in which circulates money can contribute to the fight against unemployment and to increase incomes and living standards of the local community.
