The state of social, economical, political and cultural life in post-1989 Romania has become a challenge and a confrontation from all these points of view. There is intense reference to population migration tendencies in the mass media as well as in the literature, whether it is about the people who choose to work abroad or about the people who migrate within the country. Considering these aspects, my hypothesis lies in the questioning of the evolution of migration after 1990 up to the present, as well as its contribution to the evolution and manifestation of certain demographical processes related to the physical space of the capital city which, because of its geographical, economical, political and cultural position is a pole of attraction for the population -for the rural as well as the urban population, and lastly, the "furnisher" function of the capital. Considering this state of affairs, alongside the analysis of annual migration evolution, of the age and sex group structure of migrants, of the fluxes and directions of movement of migrants, I have sought to answer to what extent migratory movement (in comparison with its natural counterpart) is "responsible" for the demographical reduction of Bucharest, this being a tendency of the past few years.
