RESUMO Esmiuçando o perfil social do eleitorado dos três bairros centrais do Recife, o artigo se propõe a relacionar a maciça participação eleitoral dos trabalhadores pobres à dinâmica cultura política que agitava a cidade em fins do século XIX.
