Pour une sociologie de l’échec intellectuel.

Abstract

Dans ce texte, on analysera la trajectoire de trois intellectuels espagnols (Juan Carlos García-Borrón, Manuel Sacristán, Esteban Pinilla de las Heras) pour développer une sociologie de l’échec intellectuel. Pour analyser les différentes modalités d'échec présentes dans leurs récits, il faut distinguer trois pôles de l'excellence intellectuelle. Le premier, on le nommera consécration institutionnelle ou capacité des agents à occuper, selon leurs ambitions personnelles, les postes institutionnels qui étaient à leur disposition. Le deuxième pôle montre la reconnaissance spécifique que chacun a pu rencontrer auprès de ses pairs : on l'appellera consécration intellectuelle. La capacité à se donner des objectifs intellectuels selon des critères exclusivement délimités par des problèmes du champ intellectuel définit le troisième pôle : on l’appellera autonomie créatrice. In this text I shall analyze the career of three Spanish intellectuals (Juan Carlos García-Borrón, Esteban Pinilla de las Heras, and Manuel Sacristán Luzón) from their autobiographic stories, with the aim of developing a sociology of intellectual failure. In order to analyze the different forms of failure in their narratives I shall distinguish between three poles of intellectual excellence: institutional reputation, intellectual reputation, and creative autonomy. So, with the experience of failure as a guide, I shall try to reconstruct the elements which directed their intellectual careers and the possible incompatibilities between the achievement of some and the loss of others.
