Recent changes in industrial concentration in Santa Catarina state

Abstract

This thesis has the aim to locate industrial activity in Santa Catarina state and to analyse characeristics of regional concentrations. In order to do that, I calculated the location coefficient of labor and the minimum importance of local activities for the different sectors of the state. This methodology made it possible to map activities, which, in this case, served as a basis for a discussion of the particularities of industrial structure in the different regions. The results show that the tradicional concentrations disperse towards other regions, that the different sectors have particular localizations in Santa Catarina and that the identified concentrations can be the object of an industrial policy.
