The review systematizes modern data on the biochemical markers that can clarify the nature and the course of chronic bronchitis. The article describes markers associated with bronchopulmonary pathology, such as tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα), interleukin 1 (IL-1), interleukin 6 (IL-6), interleukin 8 (IL-8), interleukin 10 (IL-10), tissue factor, type 1 plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI-1), and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1). For each biomolecule, its properties, functions, direct role in body processes, and associations with bronchopulmonary pathology are described. The use of these markers for early diagnosis of bronchopulmonary pathology and monitoring of the treatment effectiveness is promising and requires further in-depth study.
