Abstract

The varied reality of Florentine society in the second half of the fourteenth century is portrayed in Franco Sacchetti’s Trecentonovelle. This article attempts to show how the author’s voice, at times sarcastic, bitter, severe and sententious, becomes a constant presence in the stories and the backbone of the entire work. It dominates and controls the perfect mosaic of heterogeneous narrative that forms the structure of Sacchetti’s masterpiece and is used by the author to denounce false values or lack of values in the society in which he lives.
