The present study was aimed at knowing the opinion of graduates from a Mexican university’s Civil Engineering department about several aspects related to their first years as professionals. The study explored aspects such as graduation index, the difficulty of inserting themselves into the labour market, their opinion about the civil engi- neering programme and their interest in continuing their studies. A questionnaire was prepared for gathering the information based on various international, national and local criteria. The results revealed that the graduates had experienced little difficulty in becoming inserting into the local labour market; however, their professional performance had not been as satisfactory as they had expected.
