The Effect of Interaction between Biochar and Nitrogen Fertilizer on Ammonia Volatilization in Salinized Soil
Abstract
【Objective】 Investigating the Interactive Effects of Biochar and Nitrogen Fertilizer on Ammonia Volatilization in Saline Soils. 【Method】 We investigated the effects of applying biochar, nitrogen fertilizer, and their combination on ammonia volatilization rates and mineral nitrogen content in soils with varying degrees of salinity through indoor soil incubation experiments. 【Result】 The addition of biochar led to pH enhancement in non-saline and moderately saline soils, while its effect on heavily saline soil pH was not statistically significant. Moreover, in the presence of nitrogen application, the inclusion of biochar significantly suppressed ammonia volatilization rates in non-saline and moderately saline soils, resulting in reductions of 18.06% and 50.88%, respectively, in total ammonia volatilization compared to the sole nitrogen application. The ammonia volatilization rates were also decreased by 14.57% and 43.68% in non-saline and moderately saline soils, respectively. These findings underscore the potential of biochar to ameliorate ammonia losses in non-saline and moderately saline soils when combined with nitrogen application. 【Conclusion】 The addition of biochar has been shown to have a significant impact on reducing ammonia volatilization losses in both non-saline and moderately saline soils.
