Introduction: The International Council of Nurses (ICN) has been publishing the "International Nurses Day Thematic Booklet", which is an educational booklet an informational material specific message/theme, every year since January 1974. Aim: By analyzing the content of the nurses day theme booklets in the historical process, the messages given to nurses and the public at the international level and the formation of nursing roles in the historical process were examined. Method: The research is descriptive type and the nursing roles and the messages given to the nurses and the public were examined by examining the descriptive content of booklets in the historical process between 2002-2022. Results: Access to 21 thematic booklets between 2002-2022 were examined under five titles. Conclusion: Nursing roles discussed in the International Nurses Association thematic booklets and have seen caregiver, educator, researcher, manager, decision maker/case manager, advocate, career developer, autonomous and responsible, therapist/expert, counselor, leadership and change agent, communication/coordinator/environmentalist, rehabilitator, comforter, social determinant and policy maker nursing roles. Among these roles, career enhancing, rehabilitating and comforting roles were seen to be discussed in the 2019 ICN thematic booklet, and the role of decision maker/case manager nursing has gained importance in 2019 and beyond. In future studies in this direction, it may be suggested to develop career-enhancing, rehabilitative and comforting roles and to explain the importance of the decision-maker/case manager role.
