Proposals to Reduce Illness Absenteeism in a Municipal Health Services Institution

The objective was to investigate the illness absenteeism among workers in a municipal health service institution in the city of Uberaba – MG, and present proposals to reduce it. A documental analysis and case study were carried out involving information on sick leave that occurred in the period from 2010 to 2020. Document analysis revealed that 19,198 incidents of sick leave were registered in the period covered, equivalent to 168,564 indemnified days. Sick leave for mental and behavioral disorders were the main cause of absence from work being followed by those resulting from musculoskeletal diseases. In order to obtain a sampling of the perception of health service employees regarding sickness absenteeism, interviews were carried out in February and March 2021 with 28 of its workers. Based on document analysis and verification of the content of the interviews, proposals were presented that aim to collaborate to face sickness absenteeism by the municipal health service institution.
