Conversion et oubli des origines, une aporie. Le cas des juifs en péninsule Ibérique à la fin du Moyen Âge
Abstract
The Iberian Peninsula witnesses a series of antijewish riots during the summer of 1391. The individuals responsible for those acts of violence oblige their victims either to convert or to die. Everything is done to erase and forget the past of the converts as is supposed by the theology of baptism conceived as a mean for the birth of a new man. However, very soon doubts appear about the sincerity of converts and to track down judaizers, the anti-conversos party defines criteria to recognize them. From that moment oblivion that was obligatory to the neophyte and to the witnesses of his conversion is impossible.
