Through the reuse of the theoretical framework provided by Saidiya Hartman's critical fabulation, this essay analyses the functionality of fiction in Gabriela Wiener's first novel, Huaco Retrato. This study praises the connecting thread that directly links the past with the subplots of the present and, supported by the postulates of Anibal Quijano and Walter Mignolo, exemplifies that the abuses derived from colonization to indigenous minorities remain in force and the protagonist's desire to decolonize herself by rebelling against the canons of the Eurocentric society.
