Écrire pour le théâtre : modes de production et professionnalisation de l’auteur de théâtre brésilien dans la première moitié du XXe siècle

Abstract

Occupying a fundamental position in the circuits of production and transmission of texts for the performing arts, the Brazilian playwright developed unique writing practices in the first decades of the 20th century. To understand what it meant to write for the theater at that time, we will analyze the basic conditions under which this profession was practiced – the production of plays at an almost industrial pace – as well as the authors’ integration into the intellectual milieu and the driving forces behind their growing professionalization.
