STRESSES CALCULATION FOR A VERTICAL STORAGE TANK: MEMBRANE THEORY VS FINITE ELEMENT METHOD

Abstract

The objective of this paper is to calculate the stresses in the cylindrical walls of a vertical storage tank. The stresses state was determined both with membrane theory analysis and with finite element method (FEM), in order to make a comparison between the two methods and thus to validate the numerical method.
