Dengue: a literature review
Abstract
A literature review on dengue was conducted. From a medical point of view, it is considered the most important viral disease transmitted by mosquitoes worldwide. The new clinical classifications are dengue and severe dengue. It is clinically manifested as a subclinical infection, with undifferentiated fever (the so-called dengue fever), and in a small number of individuals the dengue hemorrhagic fever/dengue shock syndrome. Several factors are related to the pathogenesis of the disease: virulence and transmissibility of the virus, the host immune response with his immune status and genetic characteristics. The diagnosis is based on clinical, epidemiological and serological criteria. Treatment is supportive, with early and adequate restitution of fluids.
