Abstract

The article aims to explain how Francesco Guicciardini, a lawyer, deals with the issue of gestures in his political works. The investigation also highlights the use of gestures within the legal tradition and helps the reader to grasp some more obscure passages of Guicciardini’s work on the nature of the Medici regime and the way jurists thought about insanity during the 16th century.
