Uma infância protegida ou uma maternidade controlada?: analisando o grupo de incentivo ao aleitamento materno de criciúma-sc (1987-1990)

Abstract

This article sought to analyze the Group to encourage breastfeeding in Criciúma-SC, which operated from 1987 to 1990. This group, coordinated by a male doctor was also formed by volunteer participants and people linked to the health area. The GIAM was aimed at women mothers and operated forms of maternal pedagogy aimed at protecting childhood and, in short, teaching, educating and promoting assistance to women mothers. Educational materials such as booklets, pamphlets, lectures, courses and pedagogical materials were used to promote the defense of breastfeeding and, on the other hand, point out all the harm caused by mothers not breastfeeding their children. The Group also showed interest in joining the Criciúma Municipal Health Council, acting on the agenda of public policies for women. The GIAM, in its maternal pedagogy practices, traced what was considered an ideal motherhood that, at the same time as it tried to protect childhood, also regulated the behavior of women within families.
