To evaluate the efficacy of a probiótico in reducing the incidenceand severity of the enterocolitis necrotizante in newborn babiespremature babies. Methodology. Clinical essay controlled in premature babies<1.500 gr fed on artificial milk from the first day oflife. Multispecies administered a daily dose of 1 gr of probiótico,before to the beginning of feeding in conventional form with milkartificial up to the graduation of intensive care; the group control receivedwith same frequency a dose of placebo with the thinners ofprepared evaluated. The assessors did not know if the premature babyit received the prepared one or placebo. The variable of exit was the presenceof enterocolitis necrotizante (stadium the IInd or major). Results: In15 months 378 newborn babies were attended, 79 <1.500 grams; in39 could not administer maternal milk, which were assignedat random to one or another group. The clinical and demographic variablesof both groups they were similar.The incidence of enterocolitisnecrotizante the group of the probiótico was minor that in the control (1 of 19 vs 7 of 20). In the positive hemocultivos realized to chldren did not find growth of constituent gérmenes ofprobiótico. Conclusion: The probiótico multispecies administered init forms enteral from the first day of life premature babies of lessof 1.500 grams and that cannot receive industrial milk, it reducesincidence of enterocolitis necrotizante.
