The study of the relationship between nurses and patients in Hajar hospital wards of Shahrekord in 2010

Background and aims: Nursing is a profession that plays roles through communication in the sense that the accomplishments of proper nursing interventions require proper communication between the nurse and patient. This study aimed to determine the relationship performances between nurses and patients admitted in Hajar hospital wards. Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out with participation of 279 patients and 264 nurses randomly chosen among admitted patients and nurse staffs in different hospital wards of Hajar hospital of Shahrekord. The data were collected through the questionnaire of the relationship between the nurses and patients. Results: Overall mean scores of the relationship of nurse with patient was 56.65±6.8 from the nurses point of view and 49.4±11.43 from the patients point of view. No significant difference was observed between the relationship scores of patients in different wards (p˃0.05) and only scores of patients in the infectious ward was better than female and male inner wards (p≤0.001). The patients scored lower than nurses in terms of observance of communication principles that this difference was statistically significant (p≤0.001). Conclusion: According to the results of this study, it is necessary to pay more attention to the effective factors in the ground of the effective communication problems between nurses and patients. To remove their communication problems, necessary measures should be taken.
