African languages in Brazil
Abstract
African Languages are special languages, in Brazil nowadays. They have a ritual function in the Afro-Brazilian cults, or a social identification function in their use as secret languages in the communities of Cafundó and Tabatinga. This paper presents the history of the contact of African languages with the Portuguese in Brazil and discusses the participation of African Languages in the constitution of Brazilian Portuguese.
