Being a different technical and technological process from the one using film and emulsion, digital photography requires a completely different approach of the heritage protection service in order to comply with the existing legislation on the one hand, and to create a well-organised and lasting digital photo archive on the other. In addition to resolving the issue of organisation in developing the program, the database for filing and systematising the digital photographic recordings, compatibility has been achieved with the existing, classical, organisation of the Institute's photographic records, opening up the possibility of digitising and entering into the database the photographs recorded or reproduced in different media, which would result in an integrated photo archive documenting the condition of and changes underwent by the built heritage of Belgrade.
