Pulmonary complication of E-cigarette or vaping use-associated lung injury (evali): a case report

Abstract

Vaping among youths has been a growing concern worldwide in recent years. The medical community, including anesthetists, must be prepared to meet more patients with the vaping habit and its complications, including E-cigarette or Vaping Use-Associated Lung Injury (EVALI). We report a case of an 18-year-old male who presented for elective magnetic resonance imaging under general anesthesia. He suffered respiratory complications intra-procedure which was deemed secondary to possible EVALI. We will discuss the perioperative assessment of patients who use e-cigarettes, as well as the diagnosis and management of EVALI.
