Neoliberal tricks in Honduras
Abstract
In 1992, according to agreements to advance neoliberal reforming measures, Honduras promulgated the Agricultural Modernization Law that helped intensifying the process of evicting peasants and indigenous peoples from their land. In June, 2009, neoliberal leaders tried to create a state within the State, the so-called Special Region of Development – RED or Privatized Cities, as an offensive against the coup that overthrew President Manuel Zelaya who was elected in a neoliberal frame and later allied with ALBA and approximate Hugo Chávez. This article evaluates this project that was defeated by struggles led by peasants, indigenous peoples and other popular groups.
