Abstract
This study explores the question of the rising of women in the Brazilian Judicial System by testing the hypothesis of the "gender glass ceiling" as a limitation to their actual reaching the top of the judiciary. We perform a quantitative analysis of female representation in the domes of the Brazilian judicial system in two categories: state courts and federal courts. The data collected is analysed by functional segment. The text also addresses key issues related to gender distribution in the judicial system through a literature review and interviews with female magistrates in top positions in Brazilian courts. The main issues identified were analysed from the perspective of the building of gender heterogeneity and its impact on the administration of Brazilian courts.
