The international and interdisciplinary study of the construction and history of the Saint Martin Church (The church and fortifications of Motiş/Mortesdorf, municipality of Valea Viilor, district of Sibiu – History of construction and use from the Middle Ages to the present, by Günther Buchinger and Doris Schön), provides new insights into the local history, the dating of construction, and the classification of the monument. Focusing on these results on the Romanesque parish church in a small village, some historical aspects are taken into account, concerning the patronage and the medieval church administration along with new syntheses of archaeological and social-historical facts within the period, in order to frame the typologie of the church in a regional context. In this respect, the article include some scientifically results about the historical development in Transylvania into the topic, avoiding the inaccuracy of the previous stylistic catalogues and the precarity of information about construction typologies in the period. Following, a list of 55 churches in Alba, Brașov, Cluj, Harghita, Mureș and Sibiu will be prepared not only through bibliographic research but also by on-site survey.
