Determination of Noise Pollution Exposed by Employees on Fishing Vessels in Mersin Region
Abstract
Mersin province is an important fisheries region in southern Turkey. Most of the fishing activities are carried out by fishing boats but there is limited information on the working conditions of the personnel on fishing boats. Exposure to high machinery noise on fishing vessels is an important safety factor. In this study, noise levels on 6 different fishing vessels in the Mersin region were determined by on-site measurements. In personal noise exposure calculations, a task-based measurement strategy was used, considering the TS EN ISO 9612 standard. It has been determined that the daily exposure levels of the captains and crew are in the range of 72-80 dB(A) and 77-87 dB(A), respectively. Crews are exposed to higher levels of noise than captains.
