The presentation gives a short historic background of the early treatment of visually handicapped children in Holland, as well as the experiences related to the positive results in the early intervention in the development of these children. Due to that it is especially stressed that the exercises in early intervention give essential contribution in preventing more serious problems that appear in later period of life in children with visual impairment. Those problems are connected with communication, orientation and mobility, motor, social, emotional and visual development. Also, it presents the role and the work of the professional team in the early intervention in children with visual impairment.
