The objective of the present article is to illustrate two current perspectives of child development that areinclusive rather than exclusive -Michael Tomasello (cognitive) and Daniel Stern (social-subjective)-, in the sense that theyintegrate the discoveries of the early skills of the baby -carried out as of 1970-80- to their explanation, without giving upthe particular theoretical paradigm they come from. They recognize these early skills and the fundamental role of the various factors involved in development -the innate, the environmental (social and cultural)-, different research methods and thelimitations of a reductionist view. In addition they postulate that the dialog between the different theoretical perspectives isnecessary to achieve a description of the infant as a unit.
