Helicobacter pylori is currently the commonest cause of chronic gastritis. In this work we investigated the association of endoscopic antral aspect in cobblestone and the gastric infection by H pylori. 60 patientes were studied, all of them had a non-ulcer dyspepsia; mean age was 27.0 +/- 7.0 years and patients were predominantly females (n=41). The fast urease test was always positive and the histophatological findings were: an important chronic Iymphocitic and plasmocitic infiltrate of tbe gastric mucosa; activity was present in 72% of the cases and lymphoid follicles were observed in 88%. H pylori was demonstrated in all patients and colonization was severe in 75% of the cases. The possibility that this exagerated immunitary response in youg people is due to a chronic infection by H pylori, is proposed. In addition, if this Iymphocitic predominant infiltrate develops in some cases to gastric MALT lymphoma should be investigated.
